There are basically two types of Guests that the Marae caters for, one is for the Free and Independent Traveler (FIT) who may be hiking, biking or driving, this we call a Marae Visit.

The other is the Guest that wishes to experience life on the Marae involving at least one over-night stay and normally are part of a group.

This we call a Marae Experience.

MARAE VISIT

Visitors are welcomed to the Marae but please be aware that there will be times when its not appropriate to have visitors on the marae. If there are people already on the marae please ask someone if this is an appropriate time for you to visit. You will find that 95% of the time visitors will be welcome and are free to move about and take pictures. If the Whare (Houses) are open you may enter but please remove all footwear first. You may give a Koha (Donation) a Gold Coin per person would be sufficient.

MARAE EXPERIENCE

This is for groups usually of 13 persons or more and arrival times are flexible but for the best experience noon is recommended.

Suggested Programme
   
Noon Arrive and see Hangi being lit. (See traditional Maori way of cooking.)
12:15 PM Powhiri (Welcome)
Tikanga or Protocols will be taught prior to entering the Marae.
Guests will be expected to reply in the language they feel comfortable with including a Waiata (Song)
12:45 PM Lunch
1:45 PM Visit the local Kohanga Reo
See and listen to the Tamariki (Children) as they learn their language. (During School Periods Only)
2:15 PM See the Hangi being put down and buried.
2:30 PM Flax Weaving learn the art of working with Harekeke (Flax) or go hiking on a local farm. (Optional)
4:30 PM Marae History Learn the History of our people, the people of Ngati Pamoana.
5:00 PM Free Time (Happy Hour)
5:45 PM See the uplifting of the Hangi.
6:00 PM Dinner
7:00 PM Kapa Haka (Concert Party) be entertained and ladies learn a Waiata (Maori Song) and men learn the ALL Black

9:00 PM Supper or continue with Happy Hour
9:30 PM Possum Spotting
8:00 AM Breakfast
9:00 AM Poroporaki Departure
   
The Marae has two Sleeping Houses (Whare) and can sleep up to 50 persons. All linen including Towels, Sheets and Duvets are
supplied.Separate hot showers and modern toilet facilities are available. Mobile phones do not work at Koriniti but a phone is available for an emergency.

COSTS

The charge for the Marae Experience is $190-00 pp, this includes all meals. Accommodation and Entertainment Costs. There is a discount available for groups of 20 or more.

Optional extra,s Cruise aboard the MV Wakapai carries 20pax Prices start at $50pp for a three hour cruise.

Canoe trips 2 man and 6 man tours available Tours range from 2 or 3 hour to 2 or 3 days.
